Domestic Violence Awareness Month; Panel Discussion
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The offices of District Attorney Michael E. McMahon, The Staten Island Family Justice Center, Staten Island Legal Services and the Richmond County Domestic Violence Task Force are co-sponsoring a virtual event on Wednesday, October 14th at 3:00 pm, to discuss the criminal and civil legal processes for domestic violence cases and highlight services and resources available to victims of domestic and intimate partner violence.

CLEO is a non-profit organization. Since 1968, CLEO has helped more than 7,000 low-income and minority students become successful members of the legal profession. Albany Internships for Political Science Majors
The New York State Legislature is moving ahead with its Assembly and Senate undergraduate internship programs for the spring 2020 semester. Students work full-time supporting legislative offices in Albany and take courses with professors in residence closely linked to their work. Typically, three or four CSI students a year take advantage of this opportunity. It is a great opportunity for career development and to learn about the legislative process.
The state legislature provides a $6,600 stipend to cover living expenses in Albany. Students earn 16 credits in political science for participating in the program. The state legislative leadership intends to run the programs with students in residence in Albany. The fallback plan would be for students to remain home and participate in the program remotely. Legislative leaders seem committed to moving forward under any circumstance.
Please email Prof. Flanagan at Richard.Flanagan@csi.cuny.edu to discuss the application process in greater detail. It is essential that he has conversations early in the process with students, considering all the contingencies involved with the program this year.

Student Essay Contest; Cash Awards
Are you interested in a career in public service?
Tell us about your aspirations by entering the Paul A. Volcker Careers in Government Essay Contest. Two contest winners will receive $5,000 and one-on-one career coaching, and three finalists will receive $1,000. All undergraduate CUNY students are eligible to enter.
The essay contest opened Tuesday, September 29th. There is no major requirement and all undergraduate CUNY students can enter.
