She is the author of Sites of
Slavery: Citizenship and Racial
Democracy in the Post-Civil Rights Imagination (Duke Univ. Press, 2012) and the co-founder of “A Long Walk
Home,” a non-profit organization using art in the fight to end violence against
girls and women.
